I Love That Some People Think I’m In a Cult.

I’m not. The opposite. My religion is super independent-minded. Tell a Unitarian Universalist what they HAVE to believe, and we laugh.

I love Chris Kratzer. His quote above is awesome. I love any pastor who calls B.S. about harmful teachings.

This past Sunday I was eating potluck with an amazing visiting Unitarian Universalist minister. She was the reverend for our bigger UU church downtown.

I was telling her that usually when people ask me about my Unitarian Universalism they look confused. Never heard of it.

Mostly they’re not judgmental, more curious. Like, you don’t have doctrine? No Bible? (You just know some people are thinking CULT!)

Some people really do think we’re a cult. Which is fun. We’re not. As a matter of fact, UU’s are as independent minded as they come.

Try telling us what to believe and our congregation of atheists, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Pagans, Humanists, agnostics or none of the above and we’ll push back.

Everything is on the table for consideration (except fundamentalist teachings or teachings that don’t promote love, compassion and inclusion).

Some UU’s believe in God, some don’t. I happen to like Jesus. But only the feminist LGBTQ+ loving Jesus. That one.
