Christians Need to Stop This
I used to be a Christian, and I like Jesus. But drenching someone in God language lacks sensitivity and self-awareness.
Someone close to me uses lots of God language.
We don’t see each other or talk on phone. She uses God language in our emails when I tell her about hard stuff in my life. Or when she tells me something great in her life or someone else’s.
“Praise God.”
She knows I’m a Unitarian Universalist and not a Christian (anymore).
It’s not that I’m anti-Christian. Far from it as long as you’re not fundamentalist, homophobic or patriarchal. None of that BS for me.
I understand my loved one’s devoutness.
God has gotten her through lots of hard times. I’ve been there. I was a devout Methodist and I still pray at night in bed. I do gratitude prayers and I ask for help for myself and other people.
When my loved one tries to help me with an issue she tells me to pray and ask God. Fine, good, but what else?
If something great happens or something bad could have been much worse she writes, “All Glory to Him.”
